JP Morrell Campaign Announces Raising Nearly $300, 000 Prior to Qualifying

More than 200 individual donors support the campaign

NEW ORLEANS — Today, the Friends of JP Morrell announced its campaign to elect JP Morrell as New Orleans Councilmember At-Large has raised nearly $300,000.

“This is a powerful statement of support from across the City,” said JP Morrell. “As the only announced non-incumbent seeking the open City Council At-Large seat, this reinforces my belief that the public wants a candidate with fresh ideas and a record of real achievement to tackle the city’s most daunting challenges. I’m ready.”

“Raising $300,000 may be impressive on its own, but we’re most proud of the more than 200 individual donations from across the city, which truly shows the energy behind JP’s candidacy,” said committee Chairperson Alex Glaser.

Since his announcement in April, JP has raised an average of $25,000 from more than a dozen donors each week. The total raised exceeds the campaign’s internal goal of $200,000 before qualifying on July 14th. Entering the 90-day stretch of the primary campaign, the Friends of JP Morrell reported more than $213,000 in cash on hand.

“We know money alone won’t win this race – people will,” said campaign spokesperson James Baker. “We look forward to joining with JP in rolling out an aggressive campaign to earn the vote of each and every New Orleanian in all corners of the city.”

The campaign also announced it will unveil a comprehensive public safety vision early next week.

“I’ve been working hard on this plan and am excited to put forth solutions,” said Morrell. “It’s time to stop wishing we could address our crime problem and start focusing on doing.”
