NEW ORLEANS – New Orleans Saints’ Cam Jordan is helping to kick off Super School Meals, as he and other dignitaries launch a major community service initiative that will equip over 59 high-need Louisiana schools with Grab and Go school meal equipment, including mobile meal carts and milk coolers, which will help increase access to over 8.5 million school meals for almost 32,000 Nevada students.
1 in 4 Louisiana children is food insecure, compared with 1 in 5 nationally. Louisiana ranks 49th in the child poverty rate, and 48th in median household income, out of the 50 states. The percentage of free or reduced-price students participating in daily school meals in Louisiana is 91.9%, an increase of over 30% over the past 10 years.
Jordan will be joined by NOLA Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Avis Williams, USDA Food and Nutrition Service Senior Policy Advisor Sakeenah Shabazz, and representatives from GENYOUth, Amazon Access, Dairy MAX, Domino’s, Frito-Lay, New Orleans Super Bowl LIX Host Committee, PepsiCo Foundation, and Quaker, along with Entergy and Pennington Biomedical Research on Oct. 29 for a press conference and ribbon cutting at Ben Franklin High School.
