NEW ORLEANS – Make Music NOLA (MMN), an award-winning music-for-social-change nonprofit organization, is hosting a Virtual Pajama Party FUN-RAISER on April 24 at 10:30 a.m. Join hosts Rachel and Ronell Johnson (trombonist, Preservation Hall Band) to learn about the history of the organization as they take us through videos of performances and memorable milestones from the last ten years. Learn about the organization’s evolving history from one class with five students in a converted Walgreens to now reaching over 450+ students in schools and community centers around New Orleans.
Some highlights include a performance at artist Dawn DeDeaux’s musical house in the Lower 9th Ward, a visit from Todd Rundgren, and performances with musicians from the international OneBeat tour and Peabody Conservatory’s Tuned-In program. Additionally, join MMN parent Chef ReeRo, a previous winner of the Bean Madness tournament for a cooking demo, and Chris Romaguera for a cocktail/mocktail demo to meet all your brunch needs. The event will be live streamed over Make Music NOLA’s YouTube and Facebook channels by Artisound Productions. Join us to celebrate TEN years of New Orleans youth making music. In September 2011, Make Music NOLA was founded as the “Youth Orchestra of the Lower 9th Ward” with just five students in a converted Walgreens. Since then, the organization has grown to reach hundreds of students each year at over eight locations throughout the city. MMN offers group string instruction and K-4 general music classes, both in-school and after school at community centers and charter schools. Make Music NOLA’s mission is to give the children of New Orleans the keys to their musical heritage through music education. For information on Make Music NOLA, visit www.makemusicnola.org.
