NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana’s annual Black History Month Convocation will take place on Tuesday, February 23, 2021, at 12:15 p.m. This year’s celebration will be held virtually via vimeo.com to adhere to social distancing guidelines.
The event, which is free and open to the public to view online, is the university’s official celebration of Black History Month. Each year, Xavier University honors the achievements of African Americans to recognize the central role blacks have played in United States history.
Throughout history, African Americans, many of whom are Xavierites, have made significant contributions to society. The theme for this year’s convocation is Honoring a Legacy: Past, Present, and Future. The event will pay tribute to Xavier’s legacy, how it has shaped history through today, and how the institution will continue to shape the future of society through the continuation its vibrant mission to create a more just and humane society.
