Lakeview Hospital to Host Free Fall Prevention Program

COVINGTON – Lakeview Hospital announced it will host “A Matter of Balance,” an evidence-based program designed to help older adults manage concerns about falling and regain confidence in their mobility. This eight-week series, led by Lakeview Registered Nurse and Master Trainer Suzanne Weidenbacher, will take place on Mondays from Jan. 26 through March 16, 2026, in the Pelican Room at Lakeview Hospital (95 Judge Tanner Blvd., Covington). Sessions run from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and snacks will be provided.

A Matter of Balance empowers participants to view falls as controllable, set personal goals for increasing activity, and make practical changes to reduce fall risk at home. Through group discussions, mutual problem-solving, role-play activities, gentle exercises, and assertiveness training, attendees will build strength, improve balance, and explore strategies for staying active and safe. Each session builds on the last, covering topics such as assertiveness and fall prevention, fall hazards in the home and community, and recognizing “fall-ty” habits. The final session celebrates participants’ progress with a graduation ceremony.

“Falls do not have to limit your independence or your activity level,” said Weidenbacher in a release about the program. “This program helps participants see that they can take control, build confidence, and stay active while creating a sense of connection and community.”

This free program is ideal for adults who are concerned about falling, have experienced a fall in the past, or have limited their activities due to fear of falling. It is also recommended for anyone interested in improving balance, flexibility, and strength in a supportive group setting.
