NEW ORLEANS – The City of New Orleans today reminds all owners of one-to-three-unit rental properties operating in Orleans Parish to apply for the Healthy Homes Certificate of Compliance by May 1. Certification is a requirement of the Healthy Homes Ordinance.
Healthy Homes is a program put in place to protect the health, safety and welfare of the public by ensuring people who reside in Orleans Parish occupy safe and habitable rental housing.
May 1 ends the third and final phase of registration. At the close of this registration period, all rental owners are expected to have a Certificate of Compliance in order to operate rental properties in the City of New Orleans. Failure to obtain a certificate is a violation of City code and subject to enforcement. All residential rentals must be registered. Renewal is required every two years.
Residential rental property owners can complete the application process to obtain a Certificate of Compliance online via the OneStopApp by May 1. Property owners are encouraged to apply as soon as possible to prevent a backlog of applications.
The Healthy Homes Administration will be hosting virtual information sessions intended for rental property owners and management companies, to help provide a better understanding of the application process and the requirements to obtain a Certificate of Compliance. Each session will be one hour, including a brief presentation and question and answer segment.
