Orleans Parish Assessor’s Office Announces New Phone System, New Phone Number

East Bank Office number is now 504.754.8811

NEW ORLEANS — The Orleans Parish Assessor’s Office has a new and improved phone system and a new phone number, announced Assessor Erroll G. Williams. The East Back Office of the Orleans Parish Assessor’s Office, located at 1300 Perdido St, can now be reached by calling 504.754.8811. The West Bank Office phone number, 504.368.7642, remains unchanged.

Assessor Williams made the move to a new phone system after an accumulation of feedback from citizens and staff expressing concerns that the City Hall system, prefix 658, was insufficient for the high call volumes the office receives during certain times of the year. And with the Open Rolls period right around the corner, July 15 – August 16, the upgrade couldn’t come at a better time.

“A highly-trained, courteous and professional staff has always been a top priority of mine as Assessor,” said Williams. “But that doesn’t do a whole lot of good if you can’t actually get to talk to them. The City Hall phone system only has so much call capacity and during times like the open rolls period, calls to our office quickly overwhelm it even though we have staff ready to field and respond. This new phone system improves our capacity to answer all calls during work hours or received recorded messages, improving our accessibility to the public. Moreover, it relieves pressure on the City’s system.”

The Orleans Parish Assessor’s Office has a constitutional imperative to determine the fair market value of all movable and immovable property subject to taxation in Orleans Parish. Even though the Assessor’s Office is located in City Hall, it is not a City Agency.

“People would reasonably assume that, because some of our offices are located in City Hall and because our phones had a 658 prefix, we’re a City Agency. Getting our own phone system is an important step to help the public understand that we are an independent agent acting on their behalf,” said the Assessor.
