NORD to Host Annual Holiday Toy Drive Giveaway

NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Recreation Development (NORD) Commission announced today it will host its 2nd annual toy drive and giveaway for the 2021 holiday season. The toy drive will start today at all NORD recreation centers and swimming facilities. The community is welcome to drop off new, unwrapped toys for youth ages 1-17. The toy drive will conclude on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2021. All donations will be distributed at the NORD Annual Drive-Thru Toy Giveaway in partnership with iHeartMedia the following week on Saturday, Dec. 11, 2021, at Lafitte Greenway from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. or until supplies run out. Each child will receive one gift and must be present in the vehicle at the giveaway.

“We look forward to helping make this holiday season special for our youth and families in the city,” said Larry Barabino, Jr., CEO of NORD. “It is an honor to partner with so many generous partners and businesses who are committed to serving our city’s youth through the success of this event.”

“This annual event is so important to so many people in the city, and I am delighted to see a return of partners and businesses who want to be involved to make this event a memorable one for so many youth and families during the holiday season,” said Brian Egana, Chair of the NORD Commission.

In 2020, NORD partnered with several community organizations and businesses, who contributed over $6,000 to purchase more than 2,500 toys and supplies for the giveaway. NORD was able to help more than 800 youth and families during this event, and 30 families of justice-involved youth at the Juvenile Justice Intervention Center (JJIC).

Residents interested in donating a new, unwrapped toy for the giveaway can drop off the donation at any of the recreation centers and swimming facilities below starting Nov. 1, 2021. The annual Drive-Thru Holiday Toy Giveaway will be on Saturday, Dec. 11, 2021, at the Lafitte Greenway near the Lemann Concession stand starting at 10 a.m. For more information, visit nordc.org.
