NEW ORLEANS – The City of New Orleans provided updates on the Earhart Food Truck Plaza, located on Earhart Boulevard near Magnolia Street and South Claiborne Avenue. The plaza will feature eight food truck vendors on this main thoroughfare entry point into the Central Business District. “My Administration is in lockstep with the community’s needs and saw an opportunity to make this intersection more functional and aesthetically pleasing for food truck vendors,” said Mayor LaToya Cantrell. “Our food truck proprietors have made this location special to the City of New Orleans by setting up their trucks despite previous conditions, and I am excited about what this project will do for our small businesses and our city as a whole. The beautification project is a testament of what can be accomplished when we work stronger together. It’s a win-win for everyone.”
The project, funded by City bonds at an estimated cost of $2.1 million, aims to improve the infrastructure and eliminate flooding in the area, while also supporting small and ethnically diverse businesses.
Patrons will now be able to enjoy a more festive environment featuring mural paintings on the underpass support columns provided by the Arts Council. The new Earhart Food Truck Plaza will be open to the public and will include pedestrian benches and seating areas, waste receptacles, and will be surrounded by landscaping.
In addition to daily use, this beautification project will also support tailgating activities for events at the Ceasars Superdome, the Smoothie King Center, and provide a vibrant and welcoming space for the community to enjoy during events such as Super Bowl LIX and Mardi Gras.
In addition to food truck vendors, limited parking under the overpass will be available to the public, including bicycle parking. ADA compliant sidewalk ramps will also be installed at Earhart and South Claiborne Avenues.
The project, designed by Pivotal Engineering, LLC., and constructed by TEH Enterprise, LLC, is 95 percent completed and slated for opening in time for Super Bowl LIX. The community is encouraged to come out and support this exciting new addition to Earhart Boulevard.
