Mayor’s Office of Economic Development Launch #ShopLocalNOLA Campaign to Support Small Businesses This Holiday Season

NEW ORLEANS – As the holiday season approaches, the City of New Orleans and the Mayor’s Office of Economic Development, in collaboration with StayLocal!, are proud to announce the launch of a citywide social media campaign aimed at encouraging residents to support local businesses. The #ShopLocalNOLA campaign will run from Thanksgiving through the New Year, shining a spotlight on the city’s vibrant and diverse small business community.

Every year, the campaign features Mayor LaToya Cantrell’s “Shop Local” List, which highlights exceptional local businesses across New Orleans’ neighborhoods. The initiative underscores the importance of shopping local, which not only strengthens the local economy but also uplifts the entrepreneurs and communities that make New Orleans unique.

“We are excited to roll out this year’s #ShopLocalNOLA campaign,” said Mayor LaToya Cantrell. “Supporting local businesses is essential to maintaining the rich culture and resilience of our city. I encourage everyone to explore the amazing businesses across New Orleans this holiday season.”

The campaign invites department chairs, community leaders, influencers, and business owners to participate by sharing their favorite small businesses. Contributions will be featured on official social media accounts, including @cityofnola, @mayorcantrell, and @staylocal_nola, with a combined reach of over 200,000 followers.

Suggested ways to participate in the campaign are:

  • Use the blank form and template to submit your favorites
  • Visit the stores on Mayor Cantrell’s Shop Local List
  • Celebrate the holidays with local products you find at local, New Orleans-owned businesses

“Supporting locally owned businesses isn’t just a feel-good gesture, it’s demonstrating the power in your pocket, because dollars spent at our community’s independent businesses today help build a more stable economy tomorrow,” said Maryann Miller, Program Manager for StayLocal!. When local business owners and other leaders shop local, they inspire others to do the same.”

“This campaign is a collaborative effort to bring attention to our incredible small business community during one of the most important shopping seasons of the year,” said Courtney Stuckwisch Wong from the Mayor’s Office of Economic Development. “By shopping local, we all contribute to building a stronger and more sustainable New Orleans.”
