Mayor’s Office of Cultural Economy Announces Departure of Director Lisa D. Alexis

NEW ORLEANS — The Mayor’s Office of Cultural Economy (OCE) today announced the departure of its esteemed Director, Lisa D. Alexis, as she transitions into the full-time role of President and CEO of the New Orleans Tourism and Cultural Fund Corporation (NOTCF), effective February 1.

Since her appointment in 2019, Lisa has been a steadfast advocate for New Orleans cultural and creative communities, bringing a unique blend of communications expertise and government service. A proud New Orleans native, her dedication to preserving and promoting the city’s unique cultural identity is evident in key milestones, including leading her team through six carnival and festival seasons, navigating the unprecedented challenges of the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, and launching the Embrace the Culture platform. This initiative introduced a digital infrastructure that empowered artists to monetize their work, connected them with audiences when the world was shuttered, and set the City’s standard for ethical musicians pay.

“Lisa has been an extraordinary leader. Her vision and dedication have strengthened the connection between arts, culture, and economic growth,” said Mayor LaToya Cantrell. “We are deeply grateful for her service and wish her and the NOTCF team continued success.”

In 2020, Lisa was elected to lead NOTCF, an economic development corporation focused on advancing sustainable tourism and supporting the cultural industries. Under her leadership, NOTCF has upheld its motto, Culture Is Our Open Door, ensuring that all—from large festivals to individual artists and culture bearers—are supported in their work.

During Lisa’s tenure, OCE and NOTCF have played a critical role in managing signature cultural events for the Cantrell Administration, including second-term inaugural ceremonies, Mardi Gras festivities, major festivals, and the NOTCF Honors Gala. These efforts contribute to the city’s vibrant cultural landscape, which includes $2 billion generated annually by major events. Both teams have worked intentionally to carry out Mayor Cantrell’s vision of preserving, investing in, and promoting New Orleans’ unique cultural heritage while uplifting the people who bring it to life.

“It has been an honor to serve the people of New Orleans and work alongside such creative and talented individuals,” said Lisa Alexis. “I am incredibly proud of all the Office of Cultural Economy has accomplished. I leave with deep confidence that the work we’ve started will continue to flourish and look forward to further collaboration between OCE and NOTCF in our shared mission of uplifting the cultural sectors of New Orleans.
