City of New Orleans Announces Next Phase of Infrastructure Improvements

NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans Department of Public Works (DPW) today announced the next phase of infrastructure improvements aimed at enhancing street safety, accessibility and durability. These essential projects will address long-needed repairs and upgrades, benefiting both residents and visitors.

“These infrastructure improvements are not just about preparing for the upcoming Super Bowl,” said Mayor LaToya Cantrell. “They represent a long-term investment in the future of our city, ensuring New Orleans remains vibrant, safe and accessible for everyone. We are committed to making the necessary upgrades that will benefit our community for years to come.”

Upcoming Projects:

  • Central Business District (CBD) Right of Way Project 
    Status: Awarded
    Scope of Work: Street resurfacing, sidewalk repairs and installation of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant ramps
    Key Locations: Howard Avenue, Girod Street, Natchez Street, Perdido Street, Carondelet Street and other CBD areas [See map]

  • Dowman Road/Lincoln Beach Boulevard Project 
    Status: Awarded
    Scope of Work: Street resurfacing, sidewalk repairs and installation of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant ramps
    Key Locations: Dowman Road and Lincoln Beach Boulevard
  • French Quarter (FQ) Right of Way Project 
    Status: Bid and award phase
    Scope of Work: Street resurfacing, sidewalk repairs and installation of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant ramps
    Key Locations: Chartres Street, Decatur Street, Royal Street, St. Ann Street and other FQ areas [See map]
  • Sidewalk Repairs
    Status: Awarded
    Sidewalk repairs are scheduled to begin this week at various locations in the CBD and the FQ; these improvements will address both concrete and specialty sidewalks (brick and/or stone) and will enhance safety and accessibility

Significant progress continues in the CBD on Poydras Street, Julia Street, Girod Street and the Julia/Howard Extensions. Completion is expected in the coming months.

State Collaboration

In collaboration with the State of Louisiana, three additional construction projects around the Superdome and LSU parking lot will be funded by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LaDOTD). These projects will enhance streets in heavily trafficked areas. The City extends its gratitude to the state for its partnership in improving New Orleans’ infrastructure.

“These projects are a critical component of our strategy to modernize the city’s infrastructure,” said Chief Administrative Officer Gilbert Montaño. “The work we’re doing now will lay the groundwork for a stronger, more resilient New Orleans.”
