NEW ORLEANS – Washington Commanders offensive tackle and Son of a Saint Ambassador, Cornelius Lucas, donated $5,000 during the holiday season to support Son of a Saint, a New Orleans-based nonprofit that empowers fatherless boys through mentorship and holistic support.
“As someone who grew up in New Orleans, I know firsthand how much mentorship and guidance can shape a young man’s life,” said Lucas in a release about the donation. “Son of a Saint is doing the critical work of supporting these incredible boys, and it’s an honor to give back and help create opportunities for them to succeed.”
Lucas, a New Orleans native and Edna Karr High School graduate, has been a dedicated Son of a Saint Ambassador since October 2023. His donation was facilitated through the CL3 Foundation in partnership with the NFL Foundation’s Player Matching Grants program, doubling his contribution to $10,000.
“Cornelius Lucas is more than an ambassador, he’s become a connected friend and advocate for our program,” says Son of a Saint Founder and CEO Bivian “Sonny” Lee III. “Cornelius understands our mission on a personal level, and his ongoing support continues to create meaningful change for our mentees. His holiday donation and his leadership are a testament to the power of using your platform for good.”
The donation builds on Lucas’s ongoing partnership with Son of a Saint. Through the CL3 Foundation, Lucas has hosted transformative programs, including the annual Laps with Luc Swim Clinic. Over the past two summers, the clinic has taught mentees essential swimming skills and instilled life lessons, resilience, and confidence.
“Losing my father at such a young age taught me the importance of community and the role it plays in shaping your future,” said Lucas. “That’s why Son of a Saint resonates so deeply with me. They provide the support and mentorship that every young man deserves. It’s my goal to inspire these boys to dream big and realize they can overcome any obstacle.”
