Woman’s Suffrage at Hermann-Grima

Hermann-Grima + Gallier Historic Houses is excited to host the traveling exhibit Determined to Rise: The Woman’s Suffrage Movement in Louisiana, which celebrates the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment.

Developed by the Centennial Women’s Suffrage Project (CWSP) at Southeastern Louisiana University and with grant support from the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities (LEH) Rebirth grant program, the exhibit details the challenges and triumphs of the suffrage movement and includes information on notable Louisiana suffragists, the movement from the African-American woman’s perspective, laws that have changed, and a timeline of significant events.

In partnership with this exhibit, our December Gallier Gathering will consist of a panel discussion on the same topic. Speakers include Drs. Elizabeth Hornsby, Carol Madere, and Lisa Moody. This event will be virtual and free to the public.
