NEW ORLEANS — Village de l’Est- Einstein Charter Schools will host an event in collaboration with UnitedHealthcare and LSU AgCenter’s Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) to launch a new community food pantry addressing food insecurity in the East New Orleans community. The pantry will provide free groceries, nutrition education and other essential items to families in need.

Second Harvest Food Bank, Village de l’Est school faculty and UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Louisiana employee volunteers will organize the food pantry and prep for food distribution. Students and parents will sign up for and receive their distribution boxes.
One in four children in Louisiana lives with food insecurity, meaning they do not have reliable access to enough food to meet their basic needs. This includes nearly 30,000 children in Orleans Parish alone. The school food pantry will help to provide food assistance to families in the community and ensure that children have access to the nutrition they need to learn and grow.
