WHY: Saturday, Dec. 18, THNOC’s renowned museum store, The Shop at The Collection, will revive its popular local shopping experience, the Holiday Market, a program that began several years ago but was disrupted by the pandemic.

As a museum store, The Shop at The Collection carries a carefully curated array of merchandise that reflects the mission of THNOC: stewarding the history and culture of the city of New Orleans, the state of Louisiana, and the surrounding Gulf South region. Today, The Shop at The Collection features the work of many independent artists and local businesses, including women-owned businesses and BIPOC-owned businesses.

“The Historic New Orleans Collection is committed to being a community resource, and as the manager of The Shop at The Collection, it’s so important to me that we carry the work of our local artists,” said Michelle Gaynor, THNOC Manager of Retail Operations. “Plus, it’s been so great meeting all of these artists and entrepreneurs and seeing the incredible creativity and craftsmanship right here in our community.”

The local vendors participating in this year’s Holiday Market are:

  • Allison Ford Metals: jewelry
  • Atlas Handmade Beads: recycled paper ornaments, jewelry, gifts
  • Beatrix Bell: handcrafted jewelry and gifts
  • Big Chief Gerald Paige of The Great Spirit Warriors: Black Masking Indian art
  • Bow Shoeshoe: neckwear, masks, shirts
  • Carnival Sculpture: papier-mâché art by Brian J. Bush
  • Matt Haines: author of “The Big Book of King Cake”
  • Jill Shampine: textiles and mixed media art
  • Nola Mask: handcrafted holiday fascinators
  • NOLA Pens: handcrafted, locally sourced pens, wallets, coasters
  • Passion Lilie: Fairtrade clothing
  • Statement Goods: home, body, apparel and gifts
  • The Historic New Orleans Collection publications
  • Time Will Tell Watches: timepieces

The Shop at The Collection’s Holiday Market will coincide with two other notable events in the French Quarter:

  • THNOC’s Member Appreciation Day, when all current members of THNOC receive twice the usual discount on qualifying purchases from The Shop at The Collection. (Memberships at THNOC begin at $45 for individuals or $75 for households and include benefits that last throughout the year. New or lapsed members can join on-site.)
  • The French Quarter Museum Association’s (FQMA) Holiday Shopping Experience, featuring artist demonstrations, meet-and-greets and sales at participating institutions. THNOC is a member of the FQMA.

The Shop at The Collection is open Tuesday–Saturday, 9:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m., and Sunday, 10:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m., and its online catalog is accessible at shophnoc.com. The Holiday Market will take place Saturday, Dec. 18, 9:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m., rain or shine. For more information, visit hnoc.org/HolidayMarket.
