The Garden District Book Shop Releases August Event Listings

NEW ORLEANS – The Garden District Book Shop released its August event listings.

AUGUST 10 | RAMADAN RAMSEY: A NOVEL | LOUIS EDWARDS

The Garden District Book Shop is honored to host the national release of renowned local author Louis Edwards’ latest book, “Ramadan Ramsey: A Novel” on August 10.  After a twenty-year absence from the literary scene, Guggenheim Fellowship and Whiting Award-winning novelist Edwards returns with an all at once tender, heartbreaking, and triumphant story that uncovers the complexity of the modern family, and of finding home not in a certain city or place, but in the people you call family.

“Ramadan Ramsey: A Novel” is the epic tale of a New Orleans boy whose very creation is so filled with tension that it bedevils his destiny before he is even born. Spanning from the Deep South to the Middle East, Ramadan Ramsey bridges multiple countries and cultures, entwining two families who struggle to love and survive in the face of war, natural disasters, and their equally tumultuous, private mistakes and yearnings.

The event will begin at 6:00 PM with a welcome reception followed by a moderated discussion between author Louis Edwards and The Garden District Book Shop co-owner Christopher Tidmore. The discussion will be followed by a short reading, Q&A and book signing.

Tickets can be purchased at Eventbrite. For more information, please visit  www.gardendistrictbookshop.com.

AUGUST 12 | THE DEVIL MAKES THREE | TORI BOVALINO

The Garden District Book Shop will host a virtual event on August 12 to celebrate the release of Tori Bovalino’s new young adult horror book “The Devil Makes Three.” GDBS stands as the destination for Gothic and horror books in the Gulf South, so partnering with Bovalino for an event was a natural fit.

The free event will be held virtually on Zoom and begin at 6:00 PM CST. During the Zoom, Bovalino will share insights into the world of “The Devil Makes Three” and be in conversation with fellow author and friend Alechia Dow. The book discussion will be followed by a lively Q&A.

Interested parties can register for the free event on Eventbrite. Zoom links will be sent to the emails provided the day of the event. For more information, please visit  www.gardendistrictbookshop.com.

AUGUST 17 | THE DATING PLAYBOOK| FARRAH ROCHON

The Garden District Book Shop is honored to highlight the national release of Farrah Rochon’s latest book, “The Dating Playbook” on August 17. “The Dating Playbook” is the second book in Rochon’s “The Boyfriend Project” series.

“The Dating Playbook” has already been named Oprah Daily’s “ 50 Most Anticipated Romance Reads of 2021” and Buzzfeed’s “Romance Novels You Need To Read This Summer,” and is the continuation of the story of friends Samiah, London and Taylor from “The Boyfriend Project.” When it comes to personal training, Taylor Powell kicks serious butt. Unfortunately, her bills are piling up, rent is due, and the money situation is dire. Taylor needs more than the support of her new best friends, Samiah and London. She needs a miracle and Jamar Dixon might just be it. The oh-so-fine former footballer wants back into the NFL, and he wants Powell to train him. There’s just one catch—no one can know what they’re doing. But when they’re accidentally outed as a couple, Taylor’s game plan is turned completely upside down. Is Jamar just playing to win . . . or is he playing for keeps?

The event will begin at 6:00 PM with a welcome reception followed by a lively discussion about the book between Rochon and fellow author Marti Dumas. The discussion will be followed by a short reading, Q&A and book signing.

Tickets can be purchased at Eventbrite.  For more information, please visit  www.gardendistrictbookshop.com.

AUGUST 26 | ANOTHER KIND OF EDEN | JAMES LEE BURKE

The Garden District Book Shop is thrilled to announce a virtual event on August 26 to celebrate the release of renowned author James Lee Burke’s “Another Kind of Eden.” The latest installment in James Lee Burke’s masterful Holland family saga, “Another Kind of Eden” is both riveting and one of Burke’s most ambitious works to date.

“Another Kind of Eden”  is a literary mashup of the best kind that brings a new twist to the cult novel genre – a gritty, brooding mystery written in Burke’s signature style that includes elements of horror and the supernatural. Through Aaron and Jo Anne, Burke gives us a nostalgic novel that excavates the beauty and idealism of the 1960s to show the ugly that lies just beneath the surface. The result is an astute exploration into the battle between good and evil, into those who do what’s right instead of what’s easy.

The free event will be held virtually on Zoom and begin at 6:00 PM CST. During the Zoom, Burke will share insights into “Another Kind of Eden” and be in conversation with The Tampa Bay Times’ Colette Bancroft. The book discussion will be followed by a lively Q&A.

Interested parties can register for the free event on Eventbrite. Zoom links will be sent to the emails provided the day of the event.  For more information, please visit  www.gardendistrictbookshop.com.
