The Bayou Playhouse Gains New Life After Ida Devastation, to Host Public Celebration Aug. 26th

LOCKPORT — The Bayou Playhouse building is returning to its former glory as a treasured gem of Lockport. The building where it has operated since its inception in 2008 is now owned by Camille Griffin, longtime Production Manager and driving force behind the success of the theater’s children’s programming, Ms. Griffin purchased the building from the Town of Lockport and having a vision for rebirth with an eye on future growth, has big plans for the building that will continue to be the home of the Bayou Playhouse.

She is renaming the home of The Bayou Playhouse to “The Griffin.” While the building itself requires massive repair and reconstruction as a result of the major devastation incurred by Hurricane Ida, it’s not stopping Ms. Griffin from holding community-driven events. She’s getting everything restarted with the Playhouse Arts Market, which will be held on August 26 from 2 pm to 8 pm outside on the grounds of The Bayou Playhouse at The Griffin. (101 Main Street, Lockport, LA 70374).

The event will be free and open to the public. with numerous arts & crafts booths, food trucks, beverage booths (soft drinks, water, beer) and a sno ball booth with items for purchase as well as music and activities. It will feature free face painting for the kids, a petting zoo, and other activities. Beer, Food, cornhole games, and Music to go along with all the arts and crafts market vendors for the adults!

“The Bayou Playhouse has played a major role in my life since high school. I love the community. I love the kids. I love everyone I have the pleasure of working with when I’m there. After Ida essentially destroyed our beloved home for theater, we were devastated. When the Town put the building up for sale, I felt an obligation to everyone involved to do what I could to bring it back for the wonderful community of Lockport. We have big things in the plans, I would love for everyone to join me in writing this next chapter for the story of The Bayou Playhouse!” – Camille Griffin, Owner of The Griffin, Home of The Bayou Playhouse.
