METAIRIE – Skyhawks Sports Academy announced a special Day of Play event, set for Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Shrine on Airline in Metairie. This free event will provide children ages 2-12 with the opportunity to participate in fun, engaging sports activities led by the top Skyhawks coaches from across the country. Held in conjunction with the National Skyhawks “Game On” Conference, the Day of Play will feature Skyhawks’ best coaches, who will be in town and eager to give back to the community.
The Day of Play includes a range of sports such as flag rugby, soccer, volleyball and golf. The event is open to all children in the community, with programs tailored for different age groups:
● SuperTots (Ages 2-4): Choose from sessions at 9 a.m., 10 a.m., or 11 a.m. Parents will join their children on the field for interactive sports activities like 1stDownTots, SoccerTots, and VolleyKats.
● Skyhawks (Ages 5-12): Kids can join a multi-sport clinic from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., with options for parents to either drop off their children or stay to watch. The day will conclude with a free lunch for all participants.
This event is part of “Skyhawks’ longstanding commitment to providing youth with opportunities to stay active and learn valuable life skills through sports.” Skyhawks’ nonprofit arm, Skyhawks Rise, is dedicated to ensuring that all youth, regardless of background or financial circumstances, have equitable access to sports participation.
“Skyhawks is dedicated to advancing play equity and ensuring all children have the opportunity to play,” says Chelsie Hawley, executive director of Skyhawks Rise. “We’re using sport as a vehicle to transform communities by teaching life skills, and encouraging play and activity in a fun, positive setting.”
In partnership with the Junior League of New Orleans, the Day of Play will also feature a Diaper Drive supporting the Junior League’s Diaper Bank during National Diaper Need Awareness Week (Sept. 23-29). Attendees are encouraged to bring diaper donations to help local families in need. Over the past 10 years, the Junior League’s Diaper Bank has provided critical assistance to families in the Greater New Orleans area.
