NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Recreation Development (NORD) Commission will celebrate Black history and culture with a special program on Thursday, Feb. 20, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Lyons Recreation Center, located at 624 Louisiana Ave. The event will feature performances by local youth, professional artists, and NORD staff, highlighting the city’s rich artistic legacy.
The evening will include live music, spoken word, dance, and visual art, showcasing the talent and creativity within the New Orleans community. Attendees will experience inspiring tributes, dynamic performances from local dance groups, and a special piano presentation by a talented young musician. The event will also feature stunning artwork from NORD’s own instructor, Keith Duncan, whose work is currently on display at the Ogden Museum.
“Celebrating Black history is about more than just honoring the past—it’s about uplifting the voices and talents that continue to shape our future,” said Larry Barabino, Jr., CEO of NORD. “This program is a testament to the strength, creativity, and resilience of our community.”
