Vibrant Latin music will be performed by AshèSon, Fermin Ceballos, and DJ Felipe Estrada. This year’s theme, Quisqueya Noche de Encanto Tropical, is a celebration of the Dominican Republic with all the colorful fun, music and entertainment this fascinating country offers. Proceeds from the event will provide scholarships to outstanding low-income high school and college-bound Hispanic students in our community, who have demonstrated the desire to excel through their academic records.

The New Orleans Hispanic Heritage Foundation is a non-profit community organization whose main purpose is to provide an organized and directed effort in cultivating and promoting the Hispanic heritage of New Orleans and the Southern region. The most important tool the Foundation uses in achieving these goals is its scholarship program. The Foundation seeks, encourages, and supports talented Hispanic high school students by providing them with educational scholarships at local schools and participating in the NOHHF Scholarship Program. Since 1993, the NOHHF has awarded over 1,311 high school and freshman-year college scholarships to high-achieving students attending local schools, and who pursue their education at distinguished colleges and universities throughout the country. These students will become responsible leaders and make substantial contributions to the betterment of our community.

The foundation also supports local artistic and cultural activities, particularly those related to or associated with Hispanic themes and the Hispanic community.

The Gálvez Cup, the highest recognition awarded by the NOHHF, is presented to that person or entity that has been, through unselfish effort and devotion, of the greatest assistance to the Foundation in its work. The award is named after the most dynamic, efficient, and progressive governor of Louisiana during the Spanish governance period (1776-1783), Don Bernardo de Gálvez. This year’s recipient is Sonia Pérez, who served as president of AT&T Southeast States. Currently, she serves as an independent Board Director at Hancock Whitney Corp., she is President of the University of Texas Foundation and is a Board Director at the National WWII Museum. Mrs. Pérez is a stalwart supporter of our organization and a true believer in our organization’s mission and our community. Mrs. Pérez is thrilled to accept this great honor during the upcoming Azúcar Ball on Nov. 23.

The President of the NOHHF Board of Directors is Ms. Heidi A. Kiesling and the Executive Director is Mrs. Belinda Flores-Shinshillas. The Chairs of the 2024 Azúcar Ball Committee are Ashley Garcia and Dr. Nicole Caridad Ralston.
