NEW ORLEANS – New Orleans’ first ever ice cream festival is back! Held in Mid-City at the Broadside, this festival is back for its second year providing a welcome respite from the heat with delicious frozen treats. With thousands of attendees last year, the festival is excited to see the turnout Sept. 15.
This year’s attendees can expect a kids’ golf zone provided by First Tee, circus performances by Yellow Box Circus, music from the band Bad Habits, FREE face painting for the first hour by Airbrush Me, and much more!
The Broad Theater is a local, independent movie theater featuring mainstream movies, a snack bar and cozy bar area. The festival will take place next door in their newly renovated venue, called the Broadside. It is an outdoor event space for live music, movies, fundraisers, benefits, and more.
“I want to provide a fun event for all kinds of dessert lovers and showcase a slice of our amazing culinary scene in New Orleans,” said Mike Graves, festival organizer and owner of ice cream company, bof bars. “Don’t worry! The Saints away game will be playing on several TVs.”
Frozen sweet vendors include local companies: Big O’s Original Pops, Lil Dustin’s Italian Ice, NoLa Cookie Co., Gelato Bros, Meyer’s Frozen Lemonade, and many more!
Frozen Sweets Fest is officially partnering with First Tee New Orleans.
First Tee is a 501 nonprofit organization with over 150 different chapters. In New Orleans, they work with youth ages 5 to 18 teaching life skills and core values through the game of golf. Skills learned include understanding and managing emotions, resolving conflicts, setting up step-by-step goals, planning for the future, appreciating diversity, and fundamental golf skills and techniques.
“Frozen Sweets Fest is a family celebration that brings together the youth of the city of New Orleans in a day to celebrate what kids love during the summertime, frozen treats,” says Perry Faulkner, First Tee Executive Director. “An event that is as kid centric and family facing such as Frozen Sweets Fest makes the correlation with our organization spot on.”
Although the festival is free, a suggested $10 donation from adults is encouraged to First Tee New Orleans.
