New Orleans Celeratees Navy Week NOLA 2022 with Fireworks Display over Mississippi River

NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans today announced that it will host a fireworks display in celebration of Navy Week NOLA 2022. Participating Flag Officers, Shipboard Commanding Officers, servicemen and women, residents, and visitors are welcome to view the display that will take place over the Mississippi River at approximately 9 p.m. tonight. The display is sponsored by the City of New Orleans, Mayor’s Office of Cultural Economy, New Orleans & Company, and The Outlet Collection – Riverwalk New Orleans.

This week, Mayor LaToya Cantrell welcomed the arrival of two Arleigh-Burke Class U.S. Navy Destroyers; the USS Farragut and the USS Lassen, the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Daniel Tarr; and French Naval Destroyer La Combattante to the Port of New Orleans.  Navy Week NOLA 2022 marks the fourth visit to New Orleans following a cancellation in 2021 due to the ongoing pandemic, bringing more than 1,000 Navy, Marine, Coast Guard, and French Navy service members to the city. It provides an opportunity for residents and visitors to tour the vessels and witness the quality of naval and coast guard personnel, and modern military technology, interact with the nation’s defenders and reinforce the area’s military and maritime history.

Tours of the military ships will conclude on Thursday, April 21 at 5 p.m., and the week-long celebration will close with the official Ringing of the Bells ceremony on Friday, April 22 at 9 a.m. as the ships depart New Orleans.
