MANDEVILLE – NAMIWalks is a fundraising event organized by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Southeast Louisiana to raise awareness and funds for mental health programs and services, aiming to break down stigma and support people affected by mental illness. The Northshore Walk is May 17 at 9 a.m. on the Safe Haven Campus in Mandeville. Registration is free.
In recent years, 47% of Louisiana residents reported symptoms of anxiety or depression, yet nearly 20% were unable to access counseling or therapy. Each year NAMIWalks SELA brings together hundreds of community members to increase awareness, decrease stigma, and raise funds for vital, free mental health supports and services. NAMIWalks is so much more than a fundraising event, it is connection to our neighbors and support for one another.
Last year, nearly 1500 walk participants helped to raise crucial funds that provided free support and education for the 53,000community members impacted by NAMI SELA.
Participants can walk as an individual or create a team of friends, family, and co-workers, to help us reach our goal of $150,000 to support free programs and resources for community members impacted by mental health issues.
