NEW ORLEANS – Virtually explore Bourbon Street with the Brewery Running Series on Fat Tuesday, Feb. 16, in celebration of Mardi Gras!
Expanding on their VirtuALL Distance Challenge that began in January, the Brewery Running Series announced their Mardi Gras Bourbon Street Distance Detour on Feb. 16, 2021. Participants commit to completing 2 miles and earn a Finisher’s Medal, Louisiana Collector’s State Magnet, PLUS get local goodies and access to all VirtuALL Event Festivities!
The VirtuALL Distance Challenge, which started Jan. 1 and will last the full year, has participants from all over the United States virtually traveling throughout the country and major territories, collecting various prizes along the way. In addition to the joy of being active, learning about new places, and getting prizes, 10 percent of the registration fee goes to Range of Motion Project (ROMP).
“Virtual travel can’t quite replace being there in person,” said Morgan Jappe, co-founder of the Brewery Running Series. “But with the help of our imagination and some good running or walking shoes, we can still explore all the iconic trails far or close to home in a safe way.”
Participants may sign up now or at any time throughout the year. To register, go to www.breweryrunningseries.com/virtuall.
Here is how this will work:
- Participants can sign up as an individual or on a team. They will have an option to sign up for a standard ticket, a premium ticket, or a 2021 unlimited pass.
- Once they’ve selected their ticket type, they will select a route within the United States and major territories that they want to virtually complete. This can be either local to where the participant lives or could be a route they’ve always wanted to go. The routes vary in distance, depending on each participant’s fitness desire.
- Participants manually track their mileage in the VirtuALL Challenge App. All activities welcome—participants can run, walk, jog, hike, cross country ski, skate, and swim—whatever goes! Every mile they want to count counts!
- Upon completing different distances, participants receive various prizes based on the distance and ticket type they selected.
The Brewery Running Series was started in 2012 by Morgan Jappe and Nate Herrington and is in nineteen states and growing, including Minnesota, Illinois, Colorado, Oregon, Indiana, Michigan, Washington, Hawaii, Florida, Wisconsin, Virginia, Kansas, Ohio, Iowa, Texas, Arizona, New York, New Jersey, and South Dakota. The premise of the series is simple: participants show up to a brewery, run a 5K, and receive a free beer and fun at the brewery. A portion of the proceeds goes to local non-profits. Collectively, the organization has donated over $200,000 to local non-profits. Starting in April 2020 to comply with COVID-19 regulations, the series adjusted its set-up by offering various virtual distance challenges, as well as socially distanced 5K fun runs in various cities.
