Louisiana Girls on the Run Councils Unveil Girls on the Run Louisiana Virtual 5K Your Way

NEW ORLEANS — For the first time ever the Louisiana Girls on the Run Councils are coming together to host a statewide virtual event In the spirit of community and togetherness, for the first time ever the Louisiana Girls on the Run Councils are coming together to host a statewide virtual event this November.

Utilizing the social-emotional learning tools taught at Girls on the Run, the Louisiana councils came together recognizing the hardships our communities are facing during COVID-19, the potential strengths of their collective efforts, and made the decision to host the first-ever Girls on the Run Louisiana Virtual 5K Your Way on November 14th. This New Orleans virtual event is presented by the Oscar J. Tolmas Charitable Trust. The Oscar J. Tolmas Charitable Trust became a sponsor in 2018 and is committed to supporting Girls on the Run of New Orleans. Run, walk, roll, bike, dance, jump…find what works for you for the Virtual 5k Your Way. Girls on the Run New Orleans is a leader in developing and delivering life-changing programs for girls through dozens of sites across the Metropolitan area annually and has served more than 4,800 girls since it was founded in 2010.

After the cancelation of schools, implementation of social distancing, and the restrictions around large public events due to the coronavirus pandemic, the ten-year-old nonprofit adapted quickly to alter its Fall season to continue to deliver virtually on its mission.

“Our communities have seen hard days through COVID-19, it is our hope to provide our Louisiana community with a free outlet for physical wellness, mental health, and connectedness this November.”, said Julieanne Lund, executive director of Girls on the Run New Orleans.

“While this Fall season has looked different for us, our mission of inspiring girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident has never wavered. Our community needs our positive programming and inspiration now more than ever, and we are here for that. For nearly ten years we have always done everything we can to inspire and empower all girls, and COVID-19 won’t stop us from empowering and inspiring our New Orleans community! We are so grateful for our partnership with the Oscar J. Tolmas Charitable Trust. Thanks to their generosity and support we are able to provide this free outlet of physical wellness, mental health, and connectedness to our GOTR community this November.”

Participation in the Virtual 5K Your Way event on November 14 is open to the public and any proceeds from the event will benefit Girls on the Run.
