NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans will be hosting the 51st Annual Bayou Classic from Nov. 28 – 30. Preparations are underway for hosting the annual parade, football game and other events related to Bayou Classic.
The public is encouraged to be patient and prepared for heavy vehicular and pedestrian traffic in the event areas around downtown and the French Quarter by making transportation arrangements accordingly. Bayou Classic events are expected to bring hundreds of thousands of visitors to New Orleans beginning Thursday, Nov. 28 through Saturday, Nov. 30.
The following includes information to assist in maneuvering in and around scheduled events, including the parade route, parking restrictions, and street closures:
Bayou Classic Parade Route
The Bayou Classic Parade will roll on Thursday, Nov. 28 at 3 p.m.
· Parade starts and ends on Poydras St. in front of Caeser’s Superdome
· Route – Poydras St. River Bound to S. Peters St.
· Turn left on S. Peters St. to Canal St.
· Turn left on Canal St. to St. Charles Ave.
· Turn left on St. Charles Ave. to Poydras St.
· Turn right on Poydras St. to Loyola Ave.
No-Parking Zones (Parade)
No-parking zones will be in effect on the following streets on Thursday, Nov. 28 from 1p.m. to 9 p.m.:
· On both sides of Poydras St between S. Claiborne and S. Peters
· On both sides of S. Peters St between Poydras and Canal St
· On both sides of Canal St between S. Peters and St. Charles Ave
· On both sides of St. Charles Ave between Canal St and Poydras St
· On both sides of Loyola Ave. between Poydras St. and Common St.
Additional Traffic Impacts
The French Quarter Exterior and Interior Closure will be enhanced for this event. In addition to the officers manning the intersection, moveable bollards will be utilized to set up an enhanced closure of the streets.
The closures will be effective nightly on the following dates and times:
Friday, Nov. 29 and Saturday, Nov. 30
· Interior Closure – 3 p.m. – 6 a.m.
· Exterior Closure – 3 p.m. – 6 a.m.
Exterior Closure
All streets leading into the French Quarter from Canal St., Decatur St, N. Rampart St. and Dumaine St. will close with the exception of:
· Residents
· Hotel guests
· Anyone going to a restaurant or other event
· Taxi cabs, limousines and small buses will be allowed to enter
· NO large trucks, buses, etc.
· Vehicles will be made aware that they will not be able to cross Bourbon St.
Interior Closure
All streets leading to Bourbon St. at Royal St. (river side) and Dauphine St (lake side) will be closed to all vehicular traffic.
· No vehicles will be allowed to cross Bourbon St.
· Only emergency vehicles needing to access Bourbon St. or any parts of the Interior Closure will be allowed to enter.
No Parking for French Quarter Closure
Friday, Nov. 29 and Saturday, Nov. 30
Hours – 3 p.m. – 6 a.m. daily
700 – 800 blocks of the following streets:
· Iberville St.
· Bienville St.
· Conti St.
· St. Louis St.
· Toulouse St.
· St. Peter St.
· Orleans St.
· St. Ann St.
Additional No Parking for Bayou Classic
Friday, Nov. 29 and Saturday, Nov. 30
Hours – 3 p.m. – 6 a.m. daily
· Canal St. – both sides from Claiborne Ave. to Convention Center Blvd.
