Annual Lower 9 Fest Returns with Extended Hours and More Performers

NEW ORLEANS – The Lower 9th Ward Homeownership Association (L9WHA) and Lower 9 Neighborhood Association (L9WNA) proudly announce details about the 2nd Annual Lower 9 Fest, sponsored by a host of local partners. The free festival will take place Saturday, August 26, 2023, from 11:00 AM – 6:00 pm at Oliver Bush Playground located at 2500 Fats Domino Ave., New Orleans, LA.

β€œIn keeping with the spirit of community and legacy of homeownership, the L9WHA has collaborated with residents and organizations of the neighborhood to host the 2nd Annual Lower 9 Festival to connect community members with needed resources while enjoying an afternoon of live music and food,” said Gaynell Brady, Executive Director, L9WHA. “We are beyond excited to be able to bring this experience to the neighborhood again this year. We doubled down on everything from extending the length of the event to increasing the number of musicians. The residents demanded a longer event, and we agreed.”

The festival boasts 60+ community organizations, food trucks, two stages with live music, a kids zone, bike shows, and pop-up shops. The day will kickoff with a second line parade featuring The Original CTC Steppers, Stooges Brass Band, community leaders and elected officials. It will also feature performances by Gina Brown & Anutha Level Band, Le Bon Ton Babydolls, Kermit Ruffins & BBQ Swingers, the Lower Ninth Senior Center Gospel Choir, DA Truth Brass Band, DJ DNA, DJ Jubilee, Rechell Cook, iNFINITY Cheer & Dance Company, Wavi Tavi, Chucky C & Friends, Young Audience Jazz Orchestra, Kristeon J and The Sleazeball Orchestra.

The annual event is organized by the Lower 9th Ward Homeownership Association in partnership with the Lower 9 Neighborhood Association and sponsored by local businesses and organizations such as Cumulus Radio Group & EMR.
