NOLA Beautiful Brings Renewed Energy to Lower 9th Ward

NEW ORLEANS – The Lower 9th Ward came alive on Jan. 25 as volunteers, community leaders, and local icons joined forces for a cleanup and beautification event as part of the ongoing NOLA Beautiful campaign. The initiative, spearheaded by Greater New Orleans, Inc. and HandsOn New Orleans, brought volunteers together to revitalize one of New Orleans’ most iconic neighborhoods.

“This event embodies what makes New Orleans truly special—our ability to come together as a community and create something extraordinary,” said Michael Hecht, President and CEO of Greater New Orleans, Inc. “The Lower 9th Ward holds a unique place in the story of our city, and through the NOLA Beautiful campaign, we’re not just preparing for Super Bowl LIX, we’re investing in the future of our neighborhoods and showing the world the strength and pride of Greater New Orleans.”

The day’s activities included litter abatement and beautification efforts, aimed at showcasing the city’s community pride ahead of Super Bowl LIX. Among the participants was New Orleans hip-hop legend Juvenile, who lent his time and energy to the effort, reminding everyone of the power of unity and giving back. The event also featured dumpsters and a portable restroom donated by RAW Disposal, as well as 400 Hot Degreez CheeWees and Urban South’s Juvie Juice, provided by Juvenile.

“New Orleans has always looked out for me, so it’s only right I do the same for my city. Trust me, it takes more than one person to make a comeback, so we out here backing that asphalt up—fixing these roads and cleaning up these streets—not just for the Super Bowl, but for the future of our communities. Like I said, you ‘gotta get it how you live,’ and today we’re livin by givin back. When we volunteer and show love to our neighborhoods, we build something that lasts long after the game’s over. Let’s keep that spirit alive and keep New Orleans moving forward.” said Juvenile, reflecting on his personal connection to the city and the importance of the event.

Representatives from RAW Disposal, Greater New Orleans, Inc., GNO, Inc.’s NextGen Council, and HandsOn New Orleans picked up over 40 large bags of litter from the area, 150+ discarded tires, and an abandoned mattress from the residential area. Event volunteers emphasized the long-term significance of such efforts in improving quality of life and highlighting the vibrant culture of New Orleans neighborhoods.

“As the owner of Raw Disposal LLC, I was thrilled when our marketing agent, Ciara Green, presented us with the opportunity to join the clean-up campaign. Donating our dumpsters, hand wash stations, and portolet was a no-brainer—we are passionate about keeping New Orleans clean and vibrant. We can’t wait to contribute to making a lasting impact on our city” said Rahmad Wilson, owner of RAW Disposal, addressing the ongoing work needed to sustain positive momentum in the Lower 9th Ward.

“Community is at the heart of HandsOn New Orleans’ mission,” said Chris Cameron, HandsOn executive director. “Real progress happens when businesses, government, and neighbors unite to serve those in need. Volunteering isn’t just service; it’s purpose in action. Our collective impact in the Lower 9 is proof positive! Huge thanks to GNO, Inc. for sponsoring, along with Signed, Ciara, Raw Services, LIV Transportation, the Mayor’s Office of Resilience & Sustainability, our amazing volunteers, and the one and only Juvenile for using his voice to inspire social change. We’re honored to help make New Orleans a place where everyone can grow, learn, and thrive!”

The NOLA Beautiful campaign will continue its work in the Clean Zone on Feb. 1 ensuring that New Orleans shines for Super Bowl visitors while fostering a legacy of pride and progress for its residents. Those interested in participating can learn more and register for the cleanup here.
