Inaugural Louisiana Farmers Climate Convening To Unite Growers Amid Increasing Climate Impacts on Local Agriculture

Local Advocates to Host Technical Trainings and Community Building Workshops at Two-Day Event

VILLE PLATTE — The Louisiana Small Scale Agriculture Coalition (LSSAC) is hosting the inaugural Louisiana Farmers Climate Convening for farmers across the state facing increasing impacts of climate change on local agriculture. After a year that saw overlapping climate disasters that impacted Louisiana farms—including persistent drought, wildfires, record-breaking heat and saltwater intrusion—this two-day event will provide opportunities for farmers to connect on the community impacts of climate change and gain technical skills for climate-smart agriculture.

  • WHAT: The inaugural Louisiana Farmers Climate Convening

  • WHERE: Chicot State Park, 3469 Chicot Park Road, Ville Platte, LA 70586

  • WHEN: January 21 & 22, 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

The event is divided into two distinct days:

Day 1 (Sunday, January 21) will focus on the social, emotional and community impacts of climate change on Louisiana’s food system. This day will provide opportunities for growers to build community while navigating the farming challenges posed by climate change.

Day 2 (Monday, January 22) is dedicated to technical skills. Growers will learn about climate adaptations, mitigating crop loss, and agricultural techniques such as variety trialing. The event will also share information about government programs available to Louisiana farmers.

Growers from across Louisiana and neighboring states will gather to share their first hand experiences and learn together. Participants may join for one or both days. For more information about the event, email SPROUT NOLA Producers & Sustainability Director Margee Green at
