Operation Spark to Offer 7-Day Teacher Training Introductory Coding Course

Teachers will earn Level 1 Industry Based Credential

NEW ORLEANS — Operation Spark will offer a 7-day virtual training to Louisiana high school teachers. The courses will run July 6 – 9 and July 12 – 14, from 9 am to 4 pm. Participants must register here by June 18:

The training will guide participants through Operation Spark’s introductory course, Fundamentals of HTML, CSS, and Javascript, which culminates in a Level 1 (Basic) statewide Industry Based Credential. Over the seven-day period, teachers will complete all course projects and assessments in preparation for the Level 1 IBC exam. The exam will be administered virtually on the final day of the training, July 14.

This course will prepare teachers to co-teach Operation Spark’s level 1 curriculum with a full-time Operation Spark instructor. Educators who co-teach with Operation Spark for two or more semesters can go on to license and independently teach the Operation Spark level 1 curriculum.

“Trained teachers are our boots on the ground in the classroom, they work with our instructors on a daily basis to collaboratively deliver dynamic and effective learning experiences in their classrooms,” said Operation Spark Director of High School Programs, Mayukh Raychaudhuri. “This has been a successful model for us over the past two years, both in terms of student outcomes and teacher development.”
