City of New Orleans Hosts “Voices of Lincoln Beach” Community Memory Collection Event

NEW ORLEANS — The  City of New Orleans Office of Resilience and Sustainability will host Voices of Lincoln Beach on Saturday, March 29, inviting the community to share personal stories and memories of this historic cultural landmark.

WHAT: Voices of Lincoln Beach – A free community memory collection event

WHEN: Saturday, March 29, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

WHERE: St. Augustine High School Cafeteria, 2600 A.P. Tureaud Ave.

The event will serve as a space for residents to recount experiences at Lincoln Beach, preserving its legacy through storytelling and oral history recordings.

“We are thrilled to bring the community together to honor the rich history of Lincoln Beach,” said Cierra Chenier, Black New Orleans historian and event lead. “This event will allow us to capture the stories and memories of those who lived, worked, and enjoyed Lincoln Beach, helping to preserve its legacy for future generations. Every voice is vital to this shared history, and we encourage everyone to join us and make their voice heard.”

“This is an opportunity for residents to share reflections on family outings, community gatherings, and the broader cultural significance of Lincoln Beach,” said Cheryn Robles, Environmental Affairs Administrator. “This event will include dedicated spaces to record oral histories which contributes to an archive of Lincoln Beach’s history.”

Please note: Lincoln Beach is not currently open to the public for recreation.
