Parish Line Bistro to Close, Reopen as Barcar

NEW ORLEANS – Parish Line Bistro, which opened at 601 Metairie Rd. in October 2022, will close later this month and reopen as Barcar, a new concept ushered in by Hufft Marchand Hospitality, purveyors of Junior’s on Harrison Avenue in Lakeview.

The HMH team began meeting with owners Mickey Parenton and Mickey Loomis last year and jumped on the opportunity to help redefine the space. HMH will be responsible for the day-to-day operations and igniting a new brand that will focus on cocktails, food and sports. Barcar is a nod to the building’s history as a train depot at the foot of the railroad tracks that run between Metairie Road and the Jefferson/Orleans Parish line.

“The barcar was known as the social phenomenon between work and home,” said Nick Hufft, half of the Hufft Marchand team. “It was a place where people could relax on the train, have drinks and food, and momentarily get a break between the two most important parts of their lives.”

The bar will feature a focused cocktail list, espresso martini shots and other surprises.

The concise food menu will offer a hearty, dry-aged burger, lunch and dinner specials and a raw oyster section. For those lamenting the potential loss of Parish Line’s lobster roll, a crowd favorite, rest assured it will make weekly appearances on the specials board.

The rooftop drinking, dining and TV viewing area, the only one of its kind in Metairie, will sport a new look as well. The seating area will see a new layout and new greenery will be added.

“The roof area is the gem of the place,” said Lon Marchand, the other half of HMH. “It’s a really nice place to hang out, watch games and have a drink. We’ve made a few changes and I think the neighborhood is really going to enjoy the vibe up there.”

Barcar is set to open in mid-August. To start, operating hours will be Wednesday – Sunday, 11 a.m. – midnight.
