Mah Jongg Club
Do you want to learn Mah Jongg?? Of course you do!
Join in Wednesdays in August down in the Chicory House from 6-8 p.m. for a four week Mah Jongg workshop taught by local Mah Jongg instructor Renee Zack.
This class is great for Mah Jongg beginners who want to learn the game using the National Mah Jongg League rules. You’ll be click-clacking and matching in no time!

Cheese Committee and FRIENDinner
Celebrate the end of the work week by sitting down with friends to sample a variety of cheeses at 4 p.m. Afterwards, there will be a potluck style FRIENDinner at 6 p.m. Guests are invited to bring their favorite dish and mingle with other friends of The Rink. There is no better way to kick off the weekend!
The Cheese Committee will not meet on Aug. 9.
Saturday
Bring your game face! There will be cornhole tournaments every Saturday at The Rink. The bracket will open at 1 p.m and the competition will kick off at 2 p.m. Winners will be win prizes from Ted & George.
Sunday
Game Day (Drinking) at The Rink
Enjoy classic board games, puzzles and sports screenings every Sunday. The team has recently restocked the game cabinet with LOTS of new games to explore. There will be specials running every Sunday and the Olympics will be on. Come cheer on team USA with us!
AUG. 6 | SUCH CHARMING LIARS | 6 p.m
The Garden District Book Shop is thrilled to announce that the Queen of thrillers, Karen M. McManus, will be at the shop August 6 to celebrate the release of her latest mystery “Such Charming Liars.”
McManus is a New York Times bestselling author and her work includes the “One of Us Is Lying” series, which was turned into a television show on Peacock and Netflix, as well as the standalone novels “Two Can Keep a Secret,” “The Cousins,” “You’ll Be the Death of Me” and “Nothing More to Tell.”
The evening will begin at 6 p.m. and McManus will sit down with journalist Jumata Emil to discuss her book followed by a Q&A. Afterwards, she will be available to personalize copies of her books.
Tickets for the evening are required for entry and can be purchased on Eventbrite.
AUG. 27 | DAC BIET | 6 p.m.
The Garden District Book Shop is thrilled to announce that chef, instructor, and Top Chef contestant Nini Nguyen will be at the shop on August 27 to celebrate the launch of her cookbook, “Dac Biet: An Extra-Special Vietnamese Cookbook.”
Dac Biet is collection of contemporary, extra-special Vietnamese recipes, from beloved classics like Hanoi-Style Vermicelli with Grilled Pork and three variations of phở, to dishes with a New Orleans twist, like Southeast Asian Jambalaya and Sticky Fried Shrimp Bánh Mì.
The celebration will kick off at 6 p.m. Nguyen will then share insights into her cookbook journey and recipes. Afterwards, she will host a Q&A and then will be available to personalize copies of her book. The Garden District Book Shop’s bar will be open for the event and guests are invited to explore the new offerings.
Entry to the event is free and open to the public but the shop encourages interested parties to RSVP to ensure entry and reserve a copy of the book on Eventbrite as space is limited. Additional copies will be available to purchase.
