NEW ORLEANS – Preservation Hall is excited to announce it will once again welcome music lovers on Thursday, Sept. 16, after a three-week hiatus in the wake of Hurricane Ida. The venue will offer limited capacity for all ages and performances will occur Thursday-Sunday nights at 5 p.m., 6:15 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Proof of vaccine is currently required for entry for ages 13 and over. For children under the age of 12, a negative COVID-19 test performed within 72 hours is required. Reservations are strongly encouraged at preservationhall.com/calendar.
Preservation Hall, thanks to the generous support of its global community, continues to survive whatever the world throws at it. After the COVID-19 pandemic forced the Hall’s doors to close for 16 months, it re-opened on June 10, the 60th Anniversary of its original opening, adhering to city recommendations and rejoicing in the return of live music. Throughout the lockdown, Preservation Hall Foundation was able to provide more than $800K in monthly relief to its 58-member musical collective throughout the 16 months Preservation Hall’s doors were closed, as well as 21 Community Engagement Grants to other New Orleans artists and organizations.
Hurricane Ida necessitated shutting the doors once again. Thankfully, all Hall musicians are alright, though several had major damage to their homes, and all were once again out of work. The Preservation Hall Foundation immediately revived its Emergency Relief Fund and provided an emergency grant to each musician to help them address their immediate needs. The Foundation will provide another round of emergency grants to its musicians.
In addition, it will provide support to 21 designated local musicians and 7 brass bands who don’t have the benefit of the Foundation’s fundraising infrastructure, but whose work is essential to New Orleans culture and who offer both inspiration and collaboration with our Hall community. The Foundation has already committed more than $75,000 in Ida relief support.
