NEW ORLEANS Kimpton Hotel Fontenot will host New Orleans visual artist Jay McKay and his newest exhibition, “Reclaiming The Water,” for White Linen Night on Saturday, Aug. 3, from 5 p.m. to midnight. The art installation will be on display at the hotel’s full-service restaurant, King Brasserie & Bar, and cocktail lounge, Peacock Room. Visitors will travel along a walking path viewing the artwork beginning at King’s entrance on Tchoupitoulas Street, through the hall and into Peacock Room.
The all-new series, “Reclaiming The Water,” is an exploration of the pervasive stereotype that Black Americans do not or cannot swim. More information can be found at www.kkuratedcreativeagency.com. In addition to Jay McKay’s thought-provoking work, White Linen Night guests will also enjoy rhythmic Afrobeat music with DJ Ojay from 6 to 9 p.m.
King Brasserie and Peacock Room welcome guests to stop by for specialty cocktails and food from their dinner and happy hour menus. King Brasserie is also featuring a special three-course tasting menu, aptly named the Tour d’Azur, focusing on the Basque region for the summer. Stand-outs include Gazpacho with Louisiana blue crab, gold tomato, cucumber and jalapeno; Gulf Fish with Covey Rise Farms beans, sweet pepper and tomato stew; and Sweet Corn Crème Brûlée with blueberry, basil, mint and yuzu.
Peacock Room’s dinner menu includes dishes like Sweet Corn Risotto, Gulf Shrimp & Grits, and the Peacock SmashBurger. They offer an array of cocktails, like the savory yet thirst-quenching Jade Dragon made with Roku Gin, Boomsma Cloosterbitter, coriander, pineapple, mint and lime or the Rancho Escondido with Vida mezcal, Coruba rum, Campari, pineapple shrub and lime, a savory drink with a slightly bitter finish.
This event is free to attend and open to the public, but reservations are recommended for anyone looking to sit and dine at King Brasserie & Bar or Peacock Room.
