NEW ORLEANS – Blue Cypress Books hosts author Martha Boone on Thursday, June 6, at 6:30 p.m. celebrating Ms. Boone’s newest book, “Mother Charity.” There will be a discussion followed by an audience Q&A and book signing.
This event is free and open to the public however tickets are required and may be reserved here. Mother Charity is the highly anticipated sequel to The Big Free, chronicling the horror and humor of New Orleans’ Charity Hospital that transforms one of the first women in the hospital’s surgical residency from a na ve southern girl into a competent female surgeon. Dr. Elizabeth Roberts has survived the first six months of surgery training and must decide if she can rise to the challenge of her next six month rotation.
Martha B. Boone, M.D. was a surgery resident and urology resident at Tulane and trained at Charity Hospital in New Orleans from 1985-1991. She is one of the first one hundred women board certified in Urology in the United States. She retired from the practice of urology after 35 years to travel and write. She was challenged by her mentor, Dr. Norman McSwain to memorialize the great Charity Hospital in her novels. Mother Charity is her third book and the sequel to The Big Free. She is also the author of the nonfiction book, The Unfettered Urologist.
