JPAWS and Jefferson SPCA Join for “Clear The Shelters” Adoption Campaign

JEFFERSON – Jefferson Protection & Animal Welfare Services and Jefferson SPCA have joined the 10th annual Clear The Shelters pet adoption and donation campaign from Aug. 10 to Sept. 10.

Since its inception in 2015, Clear The Shelters has helped more than one million pets find new homes and raised millions of dollars for participating shelters and rescues.

Jefferson SPCA is partnering with Jefferson Protection & Animal Welfare Services to kick off the month-long campaign with an adoption event at Jefferson Feed, 4421 Jefferson Hwy., on Saturday, Aug. 10, from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. JPAWS will be transporting 15 dogs for adoption to the event with a reduced adoption fee to help clear the shelter. All dogs will be spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccines, microchipped and heartworm tested.

“Summers are tough on animal shelters because adoption numbers are lower because of people traveling. For the same reason, many owners surrender their pets because they are unable to afford boarding as well as travel so the intake numbers in shelters are higher during the summer,” says Rachel Goyette, programs director of the Jefferson SPCA.

The 2024 Clear The Shelters fundraising effort will again be led by Greater Good Charities, a global nonprofit and longtime campaign partner. Donations can be made Aug. 1 to Sept. 30 at ClearTheSheltersFund.org. Through the online platform, built by Fundraise Up, donors have the option to cover transaction fees so that 100 percent of the funds go directly to the shelter or rescue of their choice.

Virtual pet adoptions are also returning for the sixth consecutive campaign through WeRescue. The WeRescue website and app enable users to browse adoptable pets in their area by breed, gender, size and other factors, submit their adoption applications, and ask questions directly to shelters.
